Reading a Site

How we begin every project — not with a plan, but with a long walk and a notebook of what is already there.

Reading a Site

Before we draw a single line, we walk the site. We take photographs of where the light lands at 4pm in October. We measure the pitch of a footpath we will probably never alter. We make a note of the trees and where the wind comes from.

Most of this never appears explicitly in the final building. But all of it is in there, somewhere, holding the work in place.
